 General Information: To get a Washington State driver license, applicants are required to pass a knowledge test and a driving test. Burien Driving Academy is authorized by the Department of Licensing to provide both the knowledge and driving tests. In order to test with our school, applicants must first visit a Department of Licensing Office or may Pre-Apply Online. Anyone under the age of 18 years of age must have completed a Driver’s Education Course within the state of Washington. For both the knowledge and driving tests, applicants need to provide a valid PIC number issued by the Department of Licensing, along with proper photo identification. Applicants must call to confirm eligibility and availability prior to registering for driver license tests.

Fees, Refunds and Rescheduling

  • The fee for the Knowledge exam is $35 for two attempts.
  • The fee for a Skills Test is $50.00 in your vehicle.

 Each Retake of the Skills exam is $50.00 in your vehicle.

  • The fee for a Skills test with our school vehicle is $60.00.

Each Retake of the Skills exam is $60.00 in our vehicle.

Note : These fees are for testing only, separate from any fees charged for your Traffic Safety Course and the DOL’s application and licensing fees

  1. All refunds are subject to a processing fee of $20. Refunds will be granted only if requested at least 3 business days prior to the scheduled appointment.
  2. 48 hours is required to rescheduling. Please try to have your friend use the timeslot before you change the schedule. No refund for no-shows
  3. Owner has the final say for any grievance/complaint issues. Any grievances about a driving test must be submitted in writing with a carbon copy of the test.   4. The DOL Knowledge test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions about road signs, traffic laws and safe-driving practices before you drive on the roadways. Applicants must answer at least 32 questions correctly to pass the test
  5. The drive test will test the applicant's ability to drive legally and safely. Applicants must pass the driving skill test with a score of at least 80%.
  6. Your drive test scores will be entered into the DOL database within 24 hours. You will have to visit the DOL office to apply for your license. Passing the knowledge and the driving test does not guarantee that an applicant will be issued a driver's license. The Department of Licensing will determine if an applicant has met all licensing requirements.
  7. If you are under the age of 18, you must be at least 16 years old, have successfully completed a traffic safety education course, have had your permit for at least 6 months and you have had 50 hours driving experience including 10 hours at night, which you gained while a licensed driver with at least five years of licensed driving experience supervised you.
  8. The Department Of Licensing reserves the right to conduct random re-examinations: applicants refusing to take a re-examination may have their license revoked.
  9. If an applicant has a physical disability even temporarily the DOL must conduct the skill test.
  10. If you received a letter from DOL to take an examination or have physical, mental, visual or any medical issue, you must test at a DOL office. Failure to disclose this information prior to testing will result in your test not being honored at DOL to obtain your license and we will not refund the test fee.
  11. Applicant cannot use a rental car to take the driving test.
  12. The following requirements must be met if applicants elect to use their own vehicles for the driving test:
  13. A. All brakes and brake lights must work. B. All turn signals must work. C. Seat belts must function and be used. D. License plates must be on front and back of vehicle with current tabs on rear plate. E. Windshield must not be cracked or chipped in the line of vision. F. If raining, windshield wipers must function and the defroster system must work properly to defog the windows. G. Tires must meet state requirements for tire tread (no bald tires). H. Present acceptable proof of Liability Insurance showing the policy holder’s name or the vehicle description and the date of insurance coverage (examiner may verify insurance with carrier) I. Current registration, (current tabs) at the time of the test must be provided.
  14. No one is allowed to ride during the driving test; only the applicant and examiner, a service animal and an interpreter for the deaf or hard of hearing are allowed in the vehicle.
  15. Arrive 15 minutes early for your driving Test. Arriving 15 or more minutes late will be considered no show.
  16. Applicant must listen the examiner’s instruction the whole time during the skill test. If instruction is not understood by the applicant examiner may clarify instruction at any driving maneuver. Remember, Examiner is not an instructor when testing.
  17. You will need to demonstrate arm signals prior to beginning the skills test.
  18. Pursuant to RCW 46.20.720 a driver convicted of an alcohol offense may be required to have an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) in order to drive. The applicant must take the skills exam in their vehicle using the IID.
  19. At the time of the test, provide proof of identification such as a photo permit, out of state license, or school year book.
  20. We offer the knowledge test in: English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Vietnamese, and Korean. 22. Applicants must arrive on time for the test. Any late arrivals may not be able to test.
  21. Applicants may provide their own vehicles or use our vehicle to use for the driving test. Our car is a compact size sedan with automatic transmissions. If using our car, applicants are encouraged to schedule a practice session prior to the test to become comfortable with the operation of the vehicle.
  22. Burien Driving Academy reserves the right to update or modify these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice. In the event that any changes are made, the revised terms and conditions will be available upon to applicants before taking the tests.

USER PRIVACY: Under no circumstances will Burien Driving Academy share a client’s personal information to anyone unless required by law. Signature by signing below, you acknowledge receipt of the policies as listed above. You further acknowledge that you have read, understand, and accept each policy in its entirety, and have indicated so by signing below. This Signature Authorization Form will become part of your testing record. Applicant must initial on previous pages of this document.
